Hairy Eggshell People
This is a great little project for kids that is quick and easy, but most of all fun.
Here's What You Need:
- An uncooked egg (or more if you wish to make a family of hairy eggshell people)
- A bowl
- Sharp Knife
- Cardboard toilet roll
- Seed raising mix
- Alfalfa seeds
Here's What You Do:
Hold the uncooked egg over the bowl and remove the top of the egg with the sharp knife, letting the contents of the egg drain into the bowl. Always have a parent help you with this!
Wash the empty eggshell out thoroughly and allow to dry then draw a face using a permanent marker.
Cut a section off the cardboard toilet roll about 3cm wide. This will become the stand for your hairy eggshell person.
Fill the empty eggshell with the seed raising mix and pat it down firmly.
Now sprinkle a layer of Alfalfa seeds on top of the mix.
Place your filled eggshell on the toilet roll stand, place in a bright spot and water very gently every day so the seed raising mix does not dry out.
After approximately 1 week your eggshell person will start to grow it's very own head of beautiful green hair!
Create a whole family of hairy eggshell people if you want and sit them on your bedroom window sill to amuse your friends. You could even create members of your own family for fun! Decorate your toilet roll stand for added colour or even use pipe cleaners to create glasses.
There are many seeds you can use instead of Alfalfa such as, dill, grass, cress or even lettuce for a funky style!
You can also give your hairy eggshell person regular haircuts to thicken their growth! |
