The lisbon lemon is the best producer in  cooler climates. A lovely thin skinned lemon that once producing, will keep producing all year round. It will take up to 3 years for the lemon to hold its fruit, but is well worth the wait. Highly recommended for the melbourne region. All lemons are best protected from the strong cooler winds, and planted in full sun for best results. Prepare the soil the same as you would a vegie garden. Compost (and gypsum for clay soils) turned in to make the soil light and fluffy. Lemons are not dry loving, and prefer a deep water once a week in summer.
