Variety Profile

Beautifully fragrant, more commonly known as 'Garden Pinks'.  Unlike traditional tall carnation varieties (to which they are related) which are used for cut flowers, these charming plants produce smaller blooms on shorter stems that hover just above the foliage and therefore require no staking. They also will repeat bloom, producing a profusion of double flowers throughout their peak period for an eye-catching and perfumed display.
Fast to establish in a sunny spot with well draining soil they are quite dry tolerant preferring dry rather than 'wet feet'. For most prolific flowering, however, regular deep watering should be given during extended dry periods.
Currently available in the SUNDAE range are three varieties:
D. 'Coconut Sundae' - beautiful crisp white petals with vibrant red centre
D. 'Raspberry Sundae' - blush pink blooms with deep maroon centre
D. 'Cherry Sundae' - mid pink blooms with cherry red centre

Cultural Care

Low water requirements requiring only an occasional deep soak during extended periods of heat once established.  Easy to grow and very low maintenance.  Remove old flower stems by picking or cutting near stem base to keep habit neat and to encourage profuse and prolonged flowering.  Apply a slow release fertiliser in spring to enhance overall performance.

Plant Uses

Perfect for adding bright splashes of colour in entertainment areas and suitable to plant in large or small gardens as well as containers.
These varieties are also well suited as a border edging in garden beds or along a pathway. They make a wonderful specimen near entrances and doorways, where the delicate perfume can be enjoyed in passing.
Foliage is soft and grey green in colour offering a great contrast both in colour and texture for large foliaged perennials or shrubs in mixed borders or for creating a foil around garden seating or sculptures.
Flowers last well when cut for fragrant, small posies.
Plants can be mass planted to create a ground cover in sunny locations.
Well suited to rocky embankments where it can fill gaps and help prevent soil erosion or water run off.
