Product Description

Eucalyptus ficifolia Dwarf Orange (Baby Orange) 200mm
This grafted gum is one of the most spectacular when in full flower. The Orange flowers cover the outside of the tree, making it difficult to see the foliage. The native honeyeaters and parrots love the nectar. The dwarf orange grows to 3m tall by 3m wide. Perfect screening shrub or centre piece small tree. Best in full sun.
Eucalyptus ficifolia grow easily from seed. In the wild they cross pollinate with other gums, creating an interesting array of flower colours and heights. The flowers don't present themselves until the tree is up to 7 years old. It can be very disappointing to find the 'Red Flowering Gum' is a wish-washy pink or apricot 7 years later.
Propagating specialists find the most interesting combinations of strong colours in the wild and in home gardens and graft the desired plant onto a Spotted Gum (Eucalyptus maculata). The spotted gum is a very hardy gum that grows very well in the Eastern states of Australia. With a combination of the Spotted Gums hardy roots and the spectacular flowering selections of the ficifolia, this plant is very special indeed.
